Biographical Information

Megan Cooper is a NC native and a Double Tar Heel alum (BA in Psychology and Masters of Social Work). She has experience in a variety of treatment settings (inpatient, residential, IOP/PHP, and outpatient). She takes a person-centered approach to therapy and brings a “professional and pleasant” attitude to her work. Third Wave CBT therapy models (CBT, ACT, DBT, Mindfulness, Compassion-Based) are used most often, sometimes with additional creative approaches like art therapy and music. Megan completed Basic and Advanced levels of training in ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) to treat trauma, and she also pulls from other evidence-based models like IFS and Polyvagal Theory. Megan has experience in helping people with a variety of diagnoses (anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, autism/ADHD, PTSD, substance use) and also enjoys helping people learn to make wiser choices for themselves, endure the painful aspects of life more skillfully, and grow in their self-confidence and self-acceptance. She loves to teach people concrete skills to use in their daily lives while making space in the therapy session to process anything they like. She is an LGBTQ+ ally, welcoming people of all backgrounds into her session and values creating an affirming space for her clients.
