Professional Biography
Dr. Motiwala was trained as a generalist practitioner and has experience working with a variety of issues including: mood disorders/anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, trauma/PTSD,interpersonal/relationship difficulties, emotion dysregulation, general life transitions and identity development.
Dr. Motiwala received her Masters degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University in New York. She has extensive experience working with adolescents and adults of diverse backgrounds in a variety of settings. Dr. Motiwala also worked with verterans for a number of years at the VA Healthcare System in Long Beach, California. She has specific interest and expertise in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and was intensively trained in DBT through Behavioral Tech, LLC. Dr. Motiwala has supervised and coordinated Comprehensive DBT programs for adolescents and adults and is passionate about this work. Her theoretical orientation is fairly eclectic and focuses on evidence based interventions to meet the needs of her clients. She uses a nonjudgmental and collaborative approach to help her clients work towards their goals.
