Professional Biography
Dr. Samina Aziz is board-certified in general psychiatry, as well as child and adolescent psychiatry. She graduated from medical school at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1994. She completed her training at Duke University in general psychiatry in 1999 and in child and adolescent psychiatry in 2001.
Dr. Aziz is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She serves on the Executive Council of the North Carolina Psychiatric Association. She is one of the three North Carolina Representatives at the American Psychiatric Association’s Assembly. Dr. Aziz is matriculated at the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas where she is completing advanced training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
Prior to joining HRC in 2008, Dr. Aziz had worked with adults and children in both inpatient and outpatient settings in Ohio and in North Carolina. Dr. Aziz treats children, adolescents and adults. Her areas of interest include the treatment of depression, anxiety, and women’s issues. Dr. Aziz is also interested in cross-cultural psychiatry and the impact of immigration on mental health. She uses both pharmacology and psychotherapy in treating her patients and believes in collaborating with her patients’ primary physicians and therapists.
