Adult ADD/ADHD Services

The Adult ADD/ADHD program has been developed so that clients with attention problems can more effectively receive the services needed to achieve as fully functional a life as possible. At HRC, we now have an experienced team of clinicians with a great deal of collective experience in the treatment of ADD. This team includes psychiatrists, a neuropsychologist, psychologists with extensive testing experience, and therapists skilled in a variety of treatment methods — including individual and family therapy, group therapy, coaching, and career counseling. A team approach allows us to tailor the treatment that best fits each client’s needs. Providers of this program...

Career Development And Career Transition

Whether your need is for an objective “sounding board”, a targeted set of career assessments, assistance with updating and revising a resume or CV, or help with starting and progressing through the networking/job search process, individual career counseling assistance is provided by Steve Mullinix, PhD. Also, because Dr. Mullinix is a Licensed Psychologist, he can help with the worry and self-doubt that sometimes accompany the career change and job transition/job search process. All services are determined by a client’s goals and desired outcomes — there is no “package” to pay for. You pay session-by-session as needed.

Career assessments may include: the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey; the Strong Interest Inventory; the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI); The Self Directed Search (SDS); and numerous questionnaires that have been developed by Dr. Mullinix himself. Providers of this program...

Child and Adolescent Services

Children and adolescents may experience stress and worry, along with other types of problems similar to those experienced by adults. However, the symptoms in children and adolescents can be very different from those more commonly expressed in adults. Identifying the correct problem is important, so treatment can begin to improve home and school behavior. Services provided to children and adolescents at HRC include (but are not limited to) a comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation to determine if there is a learning (LD) or attention (ADHD) problem, individual, family, or group therapy, parent education and support, and consultation with schools. Clinical Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine

HRC is uniquely equipped to provide a wide array of specialized psychological services for promoting health and wellness, and for serving clients with both acute and chronic illnesses. Preventive interventions can be tailored to encourage and promote healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices. Behaviors such as eating, exercise, sleep, smoking, and time-management are quite amenable to modification from a preventive, Health Psychology perspective. Psychological interventions can also be especially helpful when working with clients who have difficulty in engaging in a treatment plan, especially refractory symptoms, or co-existing problems with depression, anxiety, or other psychological issues. Behavioral medicine treatment is particularly useful for assistance in managing pain, coping with limitations associated with chronic illness, and dealing with functional disorders.

Some of the services available through HRC’s Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine Program are listed below. Practitioners use a variety of treatment modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy, hypnotherapy, and other standard treatments. Providers of this program...

Couples/Marital/Relationship Therapy

Several HRC clinicians specialize in work with couples. Every couple, married or unmarried, straight or gay, experiences stresses in the relationship at various times. These may arise from differences in temperament and background, or in response to major transitions (children, moving, career changes, etc.). An experienced therapist can identify the problem and assist in the development of new skills. We provide pre-marital assessments, relationship building, and when necessary, separation and divorce counseling. We have staff trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy with couples, Imago Relationship Therapy, sex therapy and Gottman Method Marital Therapy. Providers of this Program

Employee Assistance Programs

HRC has over thirty years of experience in the provision and management of EAP services. As a small, locally-owned company, we can offer the flexibility to custom design a program suited to the particular needs of your employees and your organization.

The high demands of today's face-paced lifestyle often result in high levels of stress. This stress can impact employees in both private and professional environments. Depression and other mental health issues are considered to be the leading cause of decreased productivity, lost work time, and disability claims.

An EAP enables an employer to offer its staff a benefit, separate from health insurance, which can be accessed at no cost and with complete confidentiality. Providing early assistance in resolving problems can improve the quality of an employee's life and work performance. Providers of this program...

Group Therapy

Research shows that most psychological problems are equally well-treated in both group and individual therapy. Group therapy has also been show to lengthen life and improve the quality of life in those with severe disease. In addition, group therapy can also improve interpersonal relations, discriminative thinking, regulation of emotions, self-soothing skills, and self-image, as well as reduce pain, anxiety, and depression. When clients are ready and properly prepared, group therapy can deepen individual treatment by improving intimacy and self-care skills. Brief, time-limited groups can be quite helpful in enhancing specific areas such as self-confidence, dating skills, meditation skills, and self-hypnosis. Training groups for professional healthcare workers are also available. Providers of this program...

General Adult Therapy

HRC’s clinicians offer a great deal of expertise in assisting adults with a wide range of psychological issues and difficult life situations. Most individuals, at one time or another, experience significant life transitions, stresses, anxiety, depression, or other psychological difficulties that can impair both their quality of life and their ability to function effectively. Our staff is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of psychological difficulties. Individual therapists have been trained in a variety of psychological treatment techniques and philosophies. In addition, the diversity of personality styles and treatment orientations of our staff virtually assure you that you will be able to find someone with whom you can work comfortably. Both individual and group psychotherapy are available.

Diagnostic and treatment services are available for situations and conditions such as major life transitions, losses, trauma, separation, divorce, job stress, interpersonal conflict, anxiety, panic attacks, chronically sad or depressed mood, difficulty concentrating, and all major psychological and personality disorders. Hypnosis

Hypnosis is offered in conjunction with traditional psychotherapy as an additional tool to enhance psychotherapeutic pursuits. It can be integrated into many behavioral modification therapies such as smoking cessation programs. Hypnosis can also be useful in assisting the reshaping of eating patterns and attitudes to help in weight loss or in dealing with anorexia and bulimia. In addition, hypnosis can help in symptom relief, anxiety reduction, and in reducing and managing pain. Hypnosis can also be integrated into dynamically-oriented psychotherapy in exploring and uncovering life trauma and in gaining insight and healing. Providers of this program...

Neuropsychology Services

The services of a neuropsychologist may be useful to you if you are experiencing problems with your typical daily activities like work or caring for yourself. Problems may be related to poor attention or various medical conditions, including, but not limited to, traumatic brain injury, loss of consciousness, stroke, substance dependence or overdose, diabetes, seizure disorder, chronic mental illness, or noticeable personality change. There are many other conditions that can also have an effect on thinking, memory, and general ability to do daily activities. This effect is especially important to evaluate if it represents a change from previous functioning. A neuropsychological evaluation involves testing that is sensitive to problems in brain functioning that also affect behavior. Neuropsychological testing examines how well the brain is working when it performs certain functions, like remembering and learning new things. Please go to NAN for more detailed information about the specifics of testing. The evaluation may help to identify specific problems with brain functioning; form a diagnosis; define thinking skills, strengths, and weaknesses; and guide treatment for personal, educational or vocational needs. Other advantages of doing an evaluation include documentation of possible changes in functioning over time, provision of relevant recommendations, and possible neurocognitive retraining and/or therapy. Pain Management

HRC offers a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of pain conditions. The multidisciplinary professional staff has a great deal of experience with the medical, as well as psychological, aspects of pain management. The staff is comprised of licensed psychologists, social workers, and physicians specifically trained in pain management. We offer a full complement of treatment modalities including medical pain management, CBT, group therapy, addiction counseling, biofeedback, hypnosis, cognitive and neuropsychological evaluation, and psychological testing. We continually update our training and professional knowledge in order to provide the most current pharmacological and therapy interventions. We strive for an individual approach to each patient with the universal goal of improving clients’ physical functioning and emotional well-being. Providers of this program...

Sleep Disorders

Problems that interfere with sleep are very common. Approximately one-third of the adult population may complain of insomnia, or trouble sleeping, within a given year. In addition to insomnia, other common sleep problems include excessive daytime sleepiness, and sleep patterns that are out of sync with social or occupational demands. Each consultation begins with a thorough evaluation because research suggests that the best long-term results come from treating those specific factors underlying the sleep disturbance. A treatment plan is then formulated based on each individual’s unique situation. Sometimes the treatment focuses on adjusting the personal patterns of behavior that can cause or contribute to a sleep difficulty. In many cases anxiety, stress and depression — which can often play a part in the sleep problem — will be targeted in the treatment plan as well. Providers of this program...

Substance Abuse Services

HRC offers a wide range of substance abuse and addiction services for adolescents and adults. Substance abuse can include alcohol, recreational drugs like marijuana or cocaine, street drugs such as heroin or crack, and prescription drugs. For a concerned individual, evaluation of one’s substance use can offer important information about problems and potential solutions. When indicated, a person caught in substance abuse can be guided to appropriate community resources and treatment. For those clients who have moved into recovery, psychotherapy can be an important addition in consolidating and exploring issues related to early and on-going recovery. Related concerns like codependency and the issues of Adult Children of Alcoholics are important to explore in later stages of recovery. We also work with process addictions such as gambling, sex, work and spending, and the particular dilemmas encountered by the impaired professional. We also work with treatment centers, helping someone to take the step to enter treatment, and providing follow-up once discharged.

In the larger picture of addition, we work with concerned family members and significant others and can help plan an intervention when necessary. We treat codependency and Adult Children of Alcoholics issues in individuals, couples and families. We offer groups for adolescents and will offer groups for early recovering women from time to time.

Confidentiality is important, and HRC is committed to respecting your privacy. You can refer yourself or make an appointment to talk about your concerns regarding someone close to you. Providers of this program...
